Vera has quickly risen to the ranks of stardom in her newest venture as the mastermind behind three of the top selling bridal registry patterns in recent history. From the formal Vera Wang - Antibes to Vera Wang - Pink Duchesse, to the popular Vera Wang Love Knots, her work has set a new precedent for newly weds in search of the perfect addition to their household decor. A Short BiographyVera Wang, born June 27th, 1949, is a Chinese American born to an affluent family. Her educational background includes attendance of The Chapin School and Sorbonne, both in Paris, France. She went on to graduate from the Sarah Lawrence Academy majoring in Art History. With a very strong family, including both grandfathers being highly involved in the Chinese military, Wang kept her mind on fashion. Her mother was the best friend she had as a child, often taking Vera to designer shops & fashion shows in Paris. Vera was an overachiever in everything she tried. From academics to sports, she excelled. Groomed as a skater during her childhood years, Wang took center stage at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships at the age of 19 and competed against the worlds best figure skaters. However, she soon chose to follow her true passion in life, high-fashion. Moving from the center stage of the ice to the staging area behind the scenes, Vera began designing outfits for skaters such as Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan. Featured as a senior fashion editor for Vogue magazine, she spent 16 years writing about her love. As 1985 approached, Vera took herself to another level in the field by joining Ralph Lauren as a design director. Soon she had opened her own shop in New York City and began designing wedding gowns. From such names as Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham, and Uma Thurman, her dresses were a hit with Hollywood. Vera expanded vertically and horizontally, creating perfumes, shoes, sunglasses, and finally houseware. In 2001, Ms. Wang penned her first book, Vera Wang on Weddings. Now the consultant to the stars was giving counsel to the everyday bride. The book contains advice on how to choose he perfect place, date and time for a wedding, how to choose the perfect Bridal Boquet. It also gives ideas for food and drink, and gives four surprising facts about Wedding Cakes. Of couse, the book gives the new bride must know tips on selecting a dress. Such as the best times to shop (bridal shops are busiest on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays), and chosing wedding separates for a chic alternative to a gown, and usually are much less expensive. As Wang continues to amaze and surprise, fans and collectors are sure to always have something that will never go out of style--her intuition. Text written by Thomas Hardy. |
